Monday in Paris

Bonjour!

In the morning we've been having bread and yogurt and fruit, and then going out for coffee.

Today we went downtown and had our morning coffee within sight of Notre Dame. :-) The line to get in to the church was huge -- good thing that wasn't especially on our list!

We walked around there a bit, and then walked up and had lunch in the foodie's favorite lunch place. I had one of her favorites from before -- a savory tart with caramelized onions and tomatoes, and she had one with caramelized shallots and goat cheese. Both were lovely. That was the first time we splurged and had two desserts....... I had a clafoutis with mirabelle plums, and she had a tarte with peaches. :-) Mmmmm......

Then we took the metro up to the Arc de Triomphe. We figured out how to get out to it (it is in the middle of a giant traffic circle, but there is an underground walkway -- which, no doubt, saves the lives of dozens of tourists every year!), and then we walked down the Champs Elysees...... :-) It is solid with all the super-ritzy clothing stores, hotels, etc. Rolex, Cartier, whatever. All the stuff I pine for. NOT.

(Digression -- we are splurging on food on this trip, but the only thing I have purchased as a souvenir for myself is a pair of orange felt slippers, and a LOT of postcards.... :-) I guess we've spent maybe one second here, and there, glancing in jewelry stores, but that's about it. Much more interested in very cute (and $$$) baby clothes (it seems that people dress their babies much "older" here. that is to say -- the clothes in the store windows for babies look more like something I would think of putting on a 4th or 5th grader......... One day I will show you examples.....)

At the bottom of the Champs Elysees, we had hot chocolate at Angelina. I do not like hot chocolate, but if it tasted like that at home..... I would change my mind. The Rolex of hot chocoloate, only totally worth it....... :-)

After that we were tired, and ready for our nightly bread, yogurt, fruit.

When we got off the subway near the hotel, I went to the grocery for our
nightly/morningly yogurt, and the foodie went to the nearby good bakery, where the baguettes were just coming out of the oven..........

We have been invited to eat supper tomorrow at the home of her host family from two years ago. I'll be glad to meet them (and interested to see a Real Live
French-People Dwelling.......).

I keep looking up at all the apts (especially the ones that either have
big balconies or terraces and lots of plants) and wondering h0w much they
cost. Or how much it costs to park your houseboat right under the Louvre.....

Plenty. No doubt......
