September 6 -- lunch and window-shopping

.

Our lunch destination -- a favorite from 2008. Le Loir dans le Thérière is the Dormouse in the Teapot.

The floor in the entry.

Mural on the wall behind my chair, with Alice and the Mad Hatter, as well as the Dormouse in the Teapot.

Recording winy impressions.  (see the white and brown sugar lumps in the bowl?)

Another writer, with posters on the wall.  I wonder what she was writing.  She was there when we arrived, and was still writing when we left.

Caramelized onion and tomato tart.  Both it and the salad were very good.

Clafoutis with mirabelles.  Mmmmm.

Peaches, and I can't remember what.  Very good.

Tiniest sink I've ever used.

Le Loir dans le Thérière is on Rue des Rosiers.

I wasn't thinking about it at the time, but I'm glad I caught one rose, on Rue des Rosiers ("street of the rosebushes").

"The Time of Cherries" and Japanrags?  Ok...............

"Cherry Time," Japanrags, and Goldenberg's deli.  With nice mosaic above the door.

Jewish bakery (there was a menorah in the window).

Eat in ("consomer") or take it with you ("emporter").

I think this is where we got our excellent salads (and beigel) the previous Sunday evening.  More mosaic.

Love these large tiger stencils.  (note person at right for scale)

A little spur, off Rue des Rosiers.

With impatiens.

Same colors, different materials.  Love these...........

Another bakery.

The French make a real confection out of marshmallows.  They come with interesting flavors.

That's what the colored stuff is at the bottom, I think.  I had thought I would try some, at least once, but it never happened.  I was too full of my lovely lunch when we saw this bakery to want anything else just then.

I think this is the same bakery as above.  They had a wide variety -- from macarons and canélés to doughnuts. These may be the only doughnuts I saw in France.

Ok.......

We did a bit of hunting for a 2011 agenda for the foodie, because it would be fun to have one purchased in France.  Unfortunately we never did find anything that suited.

We visited one large department store's paper department.

As we left, I began to stalk this woman.

I'm sure you have noticed that I don't care a bit about fashion.  I couldn't help but notice, though, that harem pants were more prevalent in Paris than anywhere else.

I wonder if they aren't a Coming Thing.

I wanted to get a pic of some, and these were so nice and flowy.

The French use way more linen than we do.  WAY more.  I saw little girls dressed in linen.  I'll bet these are linen.....

I didn't know it until I got home and looked at the following on "the big screen," but the fullness comes mainly from a bunch of pleats on the sides.

Love the way they move with her............

Ok, trying not to get caught, stalking.........  I'll take pics of someone who won't care.

See my daughter's take on this excellent day here.
