February 15

.

On the 15th, I was dropped at the library so I could pick up some books they were holding for me.

I walked the few blocks on 5th Ave between the library and my office building.

It was a treacherous walk.  I don't know if you can see the ice, but I am about to step onto a totally iced over section of sidewalk, and there is a lot more ice between me and my destination.

Bubbles in the ice.  Some of the ice was so thick that the water wasn't totally frozen.  The ice gave under my feet, and I could see bubbles, under the ice, moving around as I took baby steps over the slippery surface.

In some places the water underneath the ice had gone, and the ice had shattered under a previous walker's feet.

This image has a lacy edge of snow/ice-on-the-grass, top left, and sidewalk ice in the rest of the image.

At lunch time, that side of 5th Ave was still treacherous, but the other side was ok.

We enjoyed falafel at Jerusalem Garden (which is just north of the AnnArborsbad Cavern, which is just north of the library.

We sat at the (really nice concrete-with-inclusions) counter, which has a good view of food-in-progress.

The falafel is deep frying.  Not its most photogenic moment.  I should have taken a pic of my sandwich when it arrived -- that was really attractive.  But I was hungry..........
