The hotel driveway curves around, between its two towers, with Fourth Street down the middle. River Road is perpendicular to Fourth Street, and was submerged on the 16th. Lower levels of parking structures on both sides of Fourth Street were also submerged.
You can see the curve of the driveway. We are looking down at Fourth Street, with River Road behind the parking sign.
The blue street sign, by the pier holding up the expressway, says Fourth Street, and the closer one says River Road. Still river, not so much road, on the 17th.
That orange thing, lower left, is a fire hydrant.....
In addition to the blue sign with white letters, just visible above the surface of the river, see the two metal "historic marker" signs, over more to the right?
Note stairway down into the water. I was able to walk up this stairway from the bottom, later in the week.
Looking across at southern Indiana. The Ohio is very wide, just here.
I expect that these lights were designed and built to be submerged, periodically. I hope so!
The pink thing at the top is the top of a railing that, I bet, goes out to a boat, sometimes.
Barberry.
Rose.
More architectural tidbits.
River Road. Note size of pieces of wood, and bench nearly under water at left.
Sweet gum.
Park. Looking west. The river is to our right. Aegon tower at the left edge, and our hotel at the right.
Away from the river, now, walking west toward the hotel.
Modern building with some interesting aspects. Curves, and straight planes.
We ate dinner at Proof on Main. This was our first of three Louisville experiences of walking into an empty restaurant and being asked if we had a reservation. "Um, no. Do we need one?"
We were told that they could give us a table in 20 minutes.
Srsly? A table that isn't available Right Now will be available in 20 minutes? Why would that be?
We didn't ask.
They said we could eat at the bar. So we did.
The food was good; the bar stools were cool-looking but uncomfortable.
Love the art. Lots of something is more than one of the same thing. Love the corgis.......
Our food, when it eventually arrived, was very good. The bread was from Blue Dog Bakery, we were told, and was very good. As was the butter..........
I had risotto. It was yummy but not all that photogenic...........
The others at my table had a pork chop and smoked chicken, both of which were good, I was told.
After dinner, they went and played bridge, and I hung out in the room, watching the light change on the windows of the tower across the way.
You can see the pink and blue light (and the noisy traffic on the expressway) in this shot.
In order to facilitate reading the Louisville posts in chronological order, I have put a link at the end of each post to the next one. The post after this one is here.
