I am never going to be the kind of photographer who waits, freezing (or boiling), in the blind, waiting hours, days, or weeks for the perfect shot.
I'm the kind of photographer who has the camera ready to hand, and grabs it up to snap glimpses of the things I encounter in places where I don't mind spending some time.
I wish this guy had posed for me without twigs between us, but he didn't.
I never noticed, before this series, how incredibly long his toenails are. Almost as long as his toes!
(as always, click on a pic to embiggen)
I wonder if this is the same cardinal I took pics of a few days earlier..........

He's absolutely gorgeous. Bird feet are intriguing, aren't they?
Yes.
I'm always pleased when the cameras show me something I would never have seen with the naked eye!
Those very-long claws would be so wrong on a dog. It makes me wonder if birds are supposed to have such long claws. Or if cardinals are.....
I'm glad it's not my responsibility to clip them -- it's enough of an issue to not clip dog toenails too short. How much worse it would be to be in charge of the length of such tiny claws........
Actually, now I'm harkening back to our earlier thoughts about large and fierce cardinals. I wonder if their territoriality gets more up close and personal sometimes than song. Seems like it must, and then I wonder if those "terrible claws" come into use.........
I will have to see if I can get some pics of Ms. C.'s feet at some point, and see if what her claws look like.....
