I particularly like the raindrops on top of the highest petals.
Tighter crop of the prev.
This was new to me -- I've seen this color petals, but not this color for the fluffy stuff inside.
Even at the peony garden, I tried to remember to look up -- medical center, just outside the Arb.
And down. Fallen petal, with teensy puddle, and stamens.
I hadn't see one like this before -- looks like petals coming out of the bunch of stamens.
It rained the whole time we were there, and the sky got darker......
I hadn't noticed on the way in, but there are laminated pages with more info about the collection on a post (lower right). One page had a map to all the scented peonies. We went back in and visited a few of them, but the sky got darker and darker, and we really thought we ought to get the cameras into a dryer environment.
Near the entrance to the Arb. Very purple in the overcast light.
I'm so glad we went, even though we didn't have time to linger and dawdle.
I had wondered if the peonies would be all bedraggled from the rain. They were clearly wet, and many flowers had dark spots that may have been rain damage (or may have been age), but so many of the flowers were just gorgeous...... Much better to have seen all we saw, than to have seen nothing, waiting for the mythic perfect day.
Happy sigh.

Oh, you're sooooo lucky. Not only did you have peonies, you had rain too. :) My fave is the third pic down... it reminds me of a beautiful, fluffy cloud. *sigh*
It was definitely one of those "Ooooh! Look at this one!" "Wow, look at THIS one!!!!" "And, what about this one over here!" kind of days.
:-)
Very grateful for peonies, and for rain.
I have a friend who lives in the PNW, who makes snarky comments every time we have snow. I tried to be non-snarky when I said I'd rather have snow than smoke from wildfires. Don't know if I succeeded.......... :-)
I am very grateful to live where adequate water falls from the sky. That some of it is frozen on arrival is fine with me. :-)
