Saturday. Errands. Farmers' market.
I hadn't thought of it before, but a person with their wits about them could make a very close estimate of the date, by looking at representative pics from a farmers' market.....
On the 1st, it was still Pepper Time.
Pumpkins are becoming more prevalent.
Lots of eggplant, on the 1st, and lots of cauliflower, too.
We all like broccoli. I wonder why we never buy cauliflower? Perhaps we should change that.....
Flowers!
Peppers.
Summer squash. I like to look at it (those itty bitty patty pans!), but due to childhood experience, do not like to eat it. Unless it is in ratatouille.
More cauliflower! One of each color, please.
We walked over to the Food Co-op, which has been there for 40 years. More. Not sure....
It's in the brown building, center, top, and is much more upscale than once it was.
The things we got have always been available there. Maple syrup (bring your own container), rice (though the brown jasmine we got might not have been there 40 years ago; not sure), wheat bran.
This is the first time I noticed the excellent carrot bike racks. (The farmers' market begins directly behind me as I stand here. The market and the co-op are conveniently close.)
Back at the market. Peppers, peppers, peppers. Love the colors and shapes.....
Bouquets.
We buy most of our summer fruit at Kapnicks. They were the source of the excellent peaches and nectarines we enjoyed this year, and had really good green beans, early in the summer. We like their cider (not too sweet), and look for our winesap apples here ("we should have them in a couple of weeks").
Summer squash, onions, tomatoes.
Eggplant, peppers, summer squash.
Chryanthemums.
We also walked over to Zingerman's, to get some fresh mozzarella for the baked eggplant dish my daughter learned from an Italian woman in Switzerland last summer. (Thank you, Giulia, where ever you are; we love this dish!)
Not sure why I took no pics at Zingerman's; they are just fine with photography, bless their generous hearts. Perhaps it's because I was too busy tasting things? There were mustards (too much horseradish for my taste, but then I don't like horseradish), a vinegar (strong, but tasty), an olive oil (nice -- peppery and grassy), and coffee (since I developed what taste I have for coffee on French espresso, I prefer that sort of coffee to what I think of as "American coffee." For American coffee, what I tasted yesterday was quite nice.)
Zingerman's deli is, like the co-op, exceedingly close to the farmers' market, and, before 10:00 on an early-October Saturday morning, not crowded at all. A total Must Visit spot; do not leave Ann Arbor without stopping in.

What a great town you live in. Wow!
It has a boat-load of amenities, that's for sure.
Just wish it were on the beach...... :-)
