watercolor changing color!

.

My brilliant buddy Carolyn googled up this answer to the question "What's up with watercolors changing color when they dry?".

Thanks, Carolyn! This is really informative. Shocking (imh) how much some of those paints change as they dry!

I may have to rethink my interest in getting involved with this medium.

The lightness/darkness thing is bad enough, but for the hue to shift?

No.

Humph!

How rude, is all I have to say.

This may be a deal breaker, between me and watercolors!!!

I don't want to be mixing the color I imagine the paint is going to dry to, I want to mix the color I see!

Sheesh.

I am puzzled -- I've read a lot of blog posts by people who use watercolors all the time, and I've never heard this mentioned. Ever.

Maybe it's one of those things that watercolor people just know and take for granted, so don't mention?

Hmmmmmmm.

It's good to have my observation confirmed, but disappointing to learn that even the good watercolor paints do this..........

Acrylics don't change as much as water colours, i find Golden paints esp good if used straight up or mixed with a little gloss or matte medium rather than water. The only luck i've had with WC keeping it's brilliance is by using a substrate called Yupo (synthetic paper)but thats a whole nuther animal too. Check out the colours on my art blog Aug. 12 and July 27 or watch videos at Youtube. HTH's!
