I walked downtown to enjoy Strangely-Orange Snack Appreciation with my former colleagues.
It was warm, for February, and foggy.
They are getting ready to turn this parking lot into an apartment building.
Many strangely-orange snacks were enjoyed. I am sorry to report that I did not do a good job of recording. I did not get pics of the shrimp crackers, nor of the bright-orange coated peanuts, nor of the five different varieties of orange-colored jelly beans.
I did get a shot of the hit of the day -- jalebi, brought by one of my Indian colleagues. Jalebi is batter swirled into hot oil, round and round, and soaked in sugar syrup after cooking. It was very sweet, with a hint of exotic flavor.
Everyone liked this, and everyone from anywhere near that part of the world (another part of India, and Afganistan) recognized it and called it by name.
We were assured it was certainly not anything Michael Pollan would think of as food, and it was certainly very orange -- perfect for the day's purpose.
It was fun to see the variety of things people brought, and it was nice to see everyone, after a month away from work.
Walking home, I spotted the first crocus I've seen this year.
Later, walking Wilbur, I enjoyed the many greens on the trunk of a young tree.
