March 4

.

We got a dusting of snow, overnight.

The sun was rising, and it was cold enough that there were flakes of snow blowing around, glinting in the bright light. You can almost see some of them as speckles of white, near the center of this image.

Getting ready to make cake.  We have determined that putting circles of parchment paper in the bottom of the pans is a good idea.

I was beguiled by the rolled-up circles of translucent paper.

I walked while the cake was in the oven (my daughter was home, keeping track of it).

I cut the recipe for this cake out of a magazine, when I was about my daughter's age.  It was from a series of "the best ever" recipes, and this is chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.  It has been our family birthday cake ever since, and it seems especially good this time.
