March 30 -- Nelson, part 6

.

I had a request that I take pics of the cloister, so here it is.

German, ca. 1520.  Wood.

The baby's curls remind me of those of the Buddha.

I know that all of the Buddha's gestures are meaningful.  Here's another meaningful gesture.

Detail of the gown.  I'm always astonished by what can be achieved in various media....   And amazed again that it survives, essentially intact, for 500 years or more....

Armor.

Amused that his rear is the only part not covered in metal.  I wonder if that part has gotten lost, or if he wanted to show off his fancy pants........

Italian, from about 1575.

A fancy flying baby head, for connoisseurs of such things.

St. Barbara.  French.  1580-ish.

At this point, we were a bit overloaded on visual stimuli.  We headed back toward the entrance to the parking structure, past whatever we happened to pass.

There were a lot of ceramic teapots in one room.  I couldn't tell which info went with which one.  I hope it's correct to say this is Staffordshire, from 1755-1760.

The decoration seems very modern, I think.

Through a room of things from the Netherlands.

I read the info on this, but neglected to record it.  It's a covered vessel, ivory, with the main subject being the judgement of Paris.

Can't you just hear it?  "Ah, ah, ah, ah, stayin' alive...... "

I am fond of Dutch floral still lives......

Detail of above.  As always, click on it to embiggen, if you like.

And thus endeth our visit to the Nelson on the 30th.
