My rose. It grows a bouquet at the top of a long, thorny stem. This is the first year it has made three bouquets at the same time. They're not all "ripe" yet, but they will be....
If I could design a flower from scratch, It would have exactly these colors. Coral, hot pink, yellow. Someone planted this rose about three decades ago. (It was here when we bought the house in 1985.)
With exactly NO coddling, it carries on, year after year, producing a bouquet or two each year. I have cut out deadwood, two or three times in all those years, and otherwise, I simply admire.
I think a "real rose person" might not admire this. The flowers are not large, nor are they perfect. I wonder if this was root stock, sturdy and enduring, underneath something more showy, which has outlived the fancier thing that the gardener wanted.
I am not a fan of thorny stuff.
This rose is the only thing in our yard with thorns. It has earned its place through fortitude and unfussiness and steadfastness. And it doesn't hurt that it has such lovely color.....
Dame's rocket seed head. Love the way we can see the seeds, with the sun behind it.
This is not in my yard, but if it were, I would probably let it be, just to enjoy these in the early evening sunlight.
