all better

.

Well, I came upstairs a few minutes ago, and thought to pick up the phone.  Lo and behold, a dial tone!

I figured they'd done something which fixed it, but wanted to make sure no one came out....

I called again, and this time I listened to alllll the options, one of which was press 0 to speak to a person.  (Ed. note -- The recording of the options says "Any time you hear your option, go ahead and press it."  So I did that, earlier, without listening through to the option that would have gotten me a person.  Duh....)

This time, I pressed 0, and spoke to a nice person right away.

I was told they'd fixed it ... hmm, can't remember her exact words, but something like "a technician at Central fixed it at 4:46."

Hooray.

Not quite as good as "NEVER, EVER down," but down for a few hours, once, in over 40 years ... not bad.

I do wonder, though....  When the power was out, a few weeks ago, I called it in, and they called to say the power was on.  Why wouldn't the phone company (the PHONE company!) call to say they fixed your problem?

The electricity call was a recording; why wouldn't the phone company do the same thing?

"We think we've resolved your issue; please let us know if that's not true."

??

Ah well.
