August 14

.

Rose, in strong sunlight.

Little yellow leaf.  Note dog hair at right, for size.....

I have never seen mushrooms do this!

There were several of them, near each other, turned up into champagne cups.

It had rained earlier.......

Maple.

Here's the oldest bit of sidewalk in my tiny collection.

This is very near the Ann Arbor School of Yoga, on Huron, across from the Y.

This is just the sort of thing you'd like to know about your builder, before you hire her/him.  Will his/her sidewalks still be there, 85 years later?

Good on ya, A. F. Thompson!  You did excellent work!

When we miss a yoga class, we can go to a different class to make up the missed session.  I went to a make-up class on the 14th.

I've been going to the late afternoon Wednesday class since January.  I haven't known any of the people who have attended that class, in all that time.

In the make-up class I attended for the first time on the 14th, there were three people I had known in the past.  One who taught a ceramics class, when I was taking ceramics at the Potters' Guild.  One whose kid had been in elementary school with my kid.  The third person's face looked very familiar, but I couldn't place her.  It seemed to me we'd been little, when we knew each other.  Elementary school?

She and I sat down near each other to put our shoes on before leaving the yoga school, and we began to talk.  It turned out that my parents bought their first house from her parents, when I was seven and she was six, over 50 years ago.  In a brief conversation we did not come up with other places we'd have had contact after that transaction, and when I asked my parents, they don't know when we'd have had other contact, either (and didn't remember we'd had contact then, for that matter).

I think it's really odd that she and I immediately knew that we knew each other.  I wouldn't have thought kids would be involved enough in a real estate transaction that they would remember each other after such a long time, but there it is.  When I told her my name, she knew at once who I was, and how she knew me.  When she told me hers, and gave the connection, I remembered her name, too.

Strange.  Definitely one of those "small world" moments.............

Another thing was strange about going to the 7:30 pm class.....  My regular class starts at 5:45.  The make-up started at 7:30.  I knew it was likely (and had taken my reflective vest with me), but it was still sort of shocking to walk out of yoga and have it be dark outside!  I've been used to walking home from yoga in full daylight, for the last several months.  It's still full daylight at 7:15 (and 7:30, for that matter), but in the dead of winter it will be nearly dark at 5:15 when I set out to walk to yoga.

I'm fine with colder weather, and with the leaves turning, but I'm not looking forward to early darkness.
