Here's another article from Smithsonian -- biomimicry, or, "design ideas that have come from nature study."

Apparently the color we see on some butterfly wings is not pigment, but is the result of light refraction......  This idea has been used for screens for electronic devices.


Yet another article -- it seems there is at least one plant which uses the same color technology.
