Labor Day.
"Of course I believe in free enterprise, but in my system of free enterprise, the democratic principle is that there never was, never has been, never will be, room for the ruthless exploitation of the many for the benefit of the few." --Harry S. Truman.
Amen, Harry!
Study ceiling on a sunny morning. Interesting light coming in through the blinds on many windows.
The rest of my family went out and got peppers, and good hotdogs and (challah) buns at Zingerman's.
The peppers (and some onions) got sauted while the coals heated up.
I intended to show the whole works put together, but when I actually had one assembled, I never thought of pics. I ate it.
After lunch, there were belly rubs.
Sometimes a belly rub makes you just want to bite something.
But you don't.
Later. Walking Willard.
Hickory. I know there's one other hickory tree in the neighborhood, but only because friends own it, and I've heard about pruning. There are probably others, as well, but this is the only one I know about from my own identification.
The nuts are about an inch long. They come in husks (the greenish thing on the twig at left is part of a husk). They are hard to open, and then you have to work to get at the meat of the nut.
You can see some meat in this shell.
I'm glad I thought to get a "longer view" shot.
It's good to have shoes....
It was too warm, but not awful. Nice clouds......
Our daughter did some wash. I took it down, as she was grinding basil for pesto.
Then I walked me. Abstract color on the sidewalk.
I saw several squirrels splayed out on various objects. Branches. A decorative boulder in someone's yard. I suspect they were trying to get cool. This one was flat on the branch it's standing on in this image.
It was lying on the branch while I (looking pointedly away from it) got out the camera, turned it on, zoomed it.... Naturally, the moment I focused on the squirrel, it jumped up, ready to run. It is scolding and flicking its tail.....
I got exactly one pic before it jumped higher into the tree. That haze of orange you can see in the upper left of this next pic is the squirrel.....
Japanese anemone. So much easier to take pics of things that stand still.....
Phlox. I had phlox at my first house. It will go and go and go, if you pick it. It smells nice, too. A good plant to have.
