April 11 -- on our way to Lari

.

Poggibonsi.  What a great name......

When my husband and I were in the United Kingdom in 1985, there were sheep on every grassy hill.  All over the UK.

I was struck, in France in 2010, to not see any sheep, and, really, not see very many farm animals.  We did see cattle from the train several times, but no sheep or goats.

I think we saw a couple of sheep, once, in Italy.  We did see pigs from our terrace in Tuscany.  (We could only tell they were pigs by taking a picture with the camera with the 24x zoom, and then looking at the picture....  Other wise, they were just dark spots.)

We saw more horses in Italy than any other kind of non-human animal save for dogs.  Those dark spots, middle right, are horses.

Here's a close crop of that area....

San Gimingano is a fun place to drive near.  It is photogenic from many angles.

We are pretty high.  You can see a long way from  here!

Rolling on.  Slowing down behind a farm vehicle gives more time to enjoy the scenery.....

The hay truck went somewhere else, and we're going this way.

Here's a closer look at the sign.  A river?  No, I bet it's that the road surface goes up and down....

I would love to know why these trees are being grown.  We saw plantings like this in France, too.  Lots of small trees, all set out in rows and columns.....  These are older than most of the ones we saw in Italy.  You see more produce in wooden boxes in France and Italy than in the USA.  I wonder if these trees turn into those boxes.  (Sorry about all the reflection off Ugo's dash!)

Here are some smaller trees, all lined up in rows..........

We wondered what the yellow was.  My daughter learned later that it is fennel.

More of the little trees, as the light area in the center of this one, above the fennel.

I wonder what will be here........

I don't think I've shown you a roundabout.  This one has art on its round center, and interesting lights, too.

We saw more windmills in France, but more solar panels in Italy.  I think these were the first windmills I saw in Italy.   Those triangly things, left of center at the bottom are stacks of big round hay bales (like the one on that truck), with plastic draped over the top.  That's a lot of pony breakfast.....
