April 12

.

Today we went to the Uffizi and to the Accademia.  The Uffizi has more Renaissance art than anywhere else.  It's wonderful to see pieces in person that you've only seen in books or on slides.....  The Accademia has Michaelangelo's David (and some other things we'd heard of, but David is the biggie).  We also walked around inside the Duomo.

A hard day on feet!

We had a very good lunch (minestrone for moi, beans & sausage for ma figlia), and a very good dinner (I had three soups -- ribbolita, another bread soup with a tomato base, and bean and barley soup).  All three were delicious, though I'm not sure you can call something that happily sits in a pile on your plate can really be called "soup".....  My daughter had hare pate, which was good (but too rich for me to want much), and spinach.

I don't think I've ever had four different soups in one day.  A soup-lover's delight.  :-)

It was a gorgeous shirt-sleeve kind of day.

Oh wait, I forgot we ate breakfast out, too.  We went to a coffee & pastry place.  Both pastries were flaky like croisant, and both had cream fillings.  Mine was citrusy, hers wasn't.  Both were good.  We also each had a cappucino.

Anyway, back to the weather.  Mid-60s and sunny.  Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Ok, we are getting up early tomorrow to explore the central market, which is literally on our doorstep, before we catch a bus to spend the day in Siena.  My daughter is visiting an oilive oil producer, and I think I will, too, unless I decide to just hang out in Siena (a UNESCO world heritage site, I learned just minutes ago....).

Buona notte!

Now THAT is the kind of dilemma that I would love to have in the morning... :-)

Have a glorious day!

Art and Italian food. Two passions -- how lovely to know someone living my passions! And in shirt sleeves. (If I were you, I'd stay there till mid-May, and then we might be able to duplicate some spring...)

Yesterday is the first day I've gone out with no jacket. It was actually hot enough in the sun that we sought out the shade!

Tuscany is supposed to be famous for soups, and I've been eating a lot of soup. One of my favorites!!!!!!! :-)
