April 16 -- the cathedral

.

At last!  Thirty-four minutes after I took the previous pic, I am finally within sight of the cathedral!

I found a place to buy a sandwich, and I ate it while sitting on a bench along this open space.

Walking on -- covered shopping area.

We'd heard they build Ferarris in Emilia-Romagna.  I don't think I saw one, anywhere.  This is the first dealership I noticed.  For any sort of car, I think.......

An exceedingly frothy building.  It's nontrivial, making froth out of marble!

I did not notice, until I saw this pic "on the big screen" how enormous these windows are!  I'm astonished to learn that much of the wall needn't be weight-bearing.

And, look, trees.  Hooray for trees!

This is one of the entrances into a very (very) fancy shopping area.  It's on the other side of the Piazza del Duomo from the cathedral.

The front of the cathedral.

A closeup.  I wonder what those fancy tassely things are supposed to be.  There were surely a lot of them on this building.

One side of the cathedral.  I was struck by all of those incredibly attenuated spires -- with statues on top!

I looked closer -- isn't that David?  I bet it is.................  Now I wonder who they all are......

A closeup of one of the lights.

One of the things that makes this building look sort of wedding-cakey is the pink color....  It looked much pinker to me, when I was there, than most of these pics show.....

I went in, but apparently I didn't take any pics.  I was tireder than I wish I'd been.

Here's a look at the Piazza del Duomo.  Note metro stop (white M in a red rectangle, left).

Headed toward the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

I couldn't tell you where this is......  On the cathedral?  Not?  Somewhere between (and including) the cathedral, and the Galleria.

It's interestingly flat, despite the depth....
