April 3

.

We had a smooth transition to Bologna.  There were a few ticket-selling machines that either didn't make sense at first, or declined to make change (but didn't tell us until the very end of the transaction).  We did use cash to buy the tix (both for the boat from our area to the train station, and from Venice to Bologna).

Our apartment is about a kilometer from the train station.  It's probably in a newer building than the one in Venice, but that one has been updated very recently and is is nearly perfect shape.  This one -- not so much.  The door is hard to unlock.  We opened a window to close the exterior shutter, and then couldn't get the window to close.  There isn't one (1) towel rack in the bathroom, and there is only one (1) pan in the kitchen.  No dish rack in the kitchen, no bread knife, and certainly no microwave nor toaster.  It's smaller, too, and the layout is weird.  Hoping we discover no further issues.

THey did come and close the kitchen window while we were out after my daughter sent a text saying we couldn't get it to close.

They've been very responsive to questions, and they left us a bowl of fruit, and a chocolate on the pillow, but I'd rather have a towel rack in the bathroom and a dish-drying rack in the kitchen............

We found our neighborhood grocery a few blocks away -- a nice big one.  Then we walked toward the center of town, to find the tourist information center, and some streets with market stalls and excellent food shops.  We bought pasta, sauce, pickled baby artichokes, cheese, and bread, and all are excellent.  We got a map, and a bus-route map at the tourist center. It's a straight shot from our apt to the center of town, but it's a mile each way.  I want to keep my energy for touristing, and not spend it all on transportation.  I bet there is a bus that goes straight there, and one that comes straight back.  Tomorrow we'll find out how often they run, and get some tickets......

I'm knackered.

Buona notte!

Just wanted to let you know that I have been following your Italy trip and find it fascinating! It certainly sounds warmer than here in Michigan!

I finally signed up for the email notification for your blog so I won't miss much. I realized it had been a bit since I checked in.

Have a wonderful time and I'll look forward to more posts! ~jeanie at Marmelade Gypsy
