April 4 -- lunchtime and later

.

More flowers.

We saw lots of Easter stuff in shop windows.  I think this is the biggest egg we saw -- it was over 2' tall.  And still really expensive, even half off!

Walkways under the upper stories of buildings are very common in Bologna, even on small streets.

Wires in the air are really common, too, as some forms of public transportation use them for power.

We looked at Smart Cars, since we had one reserved to carry us away from Bologna, to visit producers of fine foods in their normal habitat.  (For some reason, there are no vineyards, or groves of olive trees, right in city center.....) They are a cute place to put signage.  Nonna is "grandma."  "Grandma's Preserves"

Hey, look, a canal, in Bologna!

Lunch.  Bean soup.  Mmmmmmm. (No grain that I was aware of.)

And grilled veggies.  Mmmmm.

Daisy in the grass.

Lots of daisies, next to some rather tired cyclamens, which had clearly spent the winter outdoors in this location.  It doesn't get as cold in most of Italy as it gets in Michigan.....

We are walking back toward our apartment.  We are back in the lands of garbage trucks and buses.  No more garbage boats, no vaporetti.

Our walk downtown went along the side of this park.  One day I'll walk through and show you.

The whole paved area you see above is sometimes filled with vendors selling all sorts of stuff.

There were still a few vendors there, the evening of the 4th.  Looking at this closely -- it is missing some parts, and other parts seem to be replacements.....  I've never seen a spinning wheel with this configuration before.

Older, and newer.  The architecture here was different from Venice.  A lot of Bologna was clearly destroyed in the 20th century....

This building was pretty close to our apartment.

Our neighborhood church.  A big brick church.  It looked pretty new, to us.

Far too close to get a good pic of the whole.

Protected by a fence, just north of the church.  This color is exactly as the camera remembers it.  (I can't remember if it was that yellow or not -- it was certainly very green.)

In-car embellishment.  While I am all for self-expression, I'm not sure this is really a good idea.  We can see reflection in the windshield, in the upper right corner.  It can't be good for drivers to have their ability to see impaired by their exuberant decoration (or anything else).....

Now here's some personal expression I can get behind.

On "cherry tree street" again.  We had gotten tickets to Florence's Uffizzi gallery online, and needed to get the confirming email printed.  We'd seen a place that looked like an internet cafe, minus the cafe, on the way to "the big market."  So we were headed there, to get our printing done.  (Which was a piece of cake.  We'd put the email on a flash drive, which we could hand to the shop owner, who printed it for us, no problem, "Fifty cents, please.")

Supper -- little quiches, and asparagus.  Mmmm.

(Black dishes, black placemats, black table.....)
