April 8 -- lunch, and driving on

.

Appetizers.  I'd never seen carrot flowers like these before.  This all was yummy.

This was our host's choice -- shrimp salad on an artichoke.

I had grilled veggies.  They were yummy.

My daughter had delicious pork, which wasn't as photogenic as the veggies.  It came with absolutely wonderful fried potatoes.  Maybe the best fried potatoes I've ever had....  Mmmm.

Our host decided the grilled veggies looked really good, so she had some, too.  Note a new sort of flowers.

A plateful of tiny desserts.  We especially liked the candied orange peel (at bottom) and the little tarts.  Mmmmmmmm.

After our delicious lunch, and after admiring our host's adorable puppy online, we parted ways.  Weren't we lucky, to get to see and do the things we got to see and do?  Thank you, Christina!  We had a wonderful time.  It was so nice to get to spend time with you!

Grapevines (and notice flowering trees, at right).

It was raining.

Lots of same-species trees planted on both sides of the street, in Emilian towns.  It makes an attractive perspective.

We had asked if the car-rental place had a cheat-sheet about the meaning of signs.  We were told we wouldn't need one, because "it is the same as America."  Hmm.  Not exactly.....

For example, were we required to stop, if a person approached the crosswalk?  We did, but we weren't sure what the rule was.

I wonder if this is an apartment building, or if commercial buildings have functional shutters.

Old farmhouse, green fields, a line of tall, skinny trees.....

Flowering trees......

We know what the deer sign means (at least, we think we do), but the other sign?

Look, hills!  That's where we are bound.
