Still in Castelvetro di Modena, still walking back to Ugo.
Someone is taking very good care of this building!
If I remember correctly, this was a restaurant.
This whole hilltop must be a very ritzy area. It was pristinely maintained.
With flowers.
Leaving Castelvetro di Modena, we headed for our agritourismo for the night: Fattoria l'Alpenice. It was about 25 minutes, more or less straight west.
Here is our room. Wow! I didn't do a good job of showing you just how high that ceiling is..... But you can see the cool old bed. The armoire was also big and old. And wait till I show you the view..........
First, the bathroom. With hand-decorated sink.
I neglected to take pics of the pleasant kitchen (available for guests' use) and breakfast room. I sat at the table in the breakfast room that evening, with the netbook, updating you from Italy, while another guest made her supper. I don't know what the finished product was, but the sauteed onions with which it began smelled really good.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. When our host was showing us around, after letting us into our room, he asked us why we were in the area. When we told him we were visiting food producers, and had been to see La Vecchia Dispensa, he asked if we'd like to see his family batteria. You *bet* we would!
So we walked to the end of the kitchen, and moved the recycling cabinet, and the shelves for pots and pans, and walked through the door......
And there it was! We'd been told that every family had their batteria, which was busy making balsamico tradizionale for their health and well-being, and here was that reality, right in front of us.
How cool. Wow.
My daughter took both of the two pics above. They are used here with her permission.
Simone at La Vecchia Dispensa had recommended a restaurant to us, but we were tired, and didn't want to drive on those narrow roads at night.
Here's a look at the view out our bedroom's window. !!!
After it was dark outside, we sat on our (heated!) floor, and ate squacquerone on bread, and yogurt, and apple. (Grocery-store squacquerone -- not bad. Not as good as what we had at La Tua Piadina in Bologna, but not bad at all.)
Here's what my daughter has to say about squacquerone.
What a wonderful day!
