On May 5, Ann Arbor's Water Hill neighborhood had an afternoon of live music. Meander around, admiring the music, and the flowers, and the houses. This neighborhood probably includes my old house on Ashley Street, and sweeps west to about Mack School from there, north of Miller.
We'd been vaguely aware of this musical afternoon, in previous years. Wehad never gone, though most of it is within a mile of our house. This year, we decided to go.
Tulip.
Musicians, on front porches and in front yards, with listeners strolling by, pausing to listen for a bit..............
Lots of interesting houses to look at, or maybe someone's special car. Mom and Dad, this reminded me of the white convertible Mom gave to Dad for Father's Day one year. (Mom rented the fancy car for the day....)
The Chenille Sisters. We have enjoyed their music for decades.
This neighborhood has much more diverse architecture than ours. It's older, and many houses have been modified over time. Semi-circular bay (with nice weeping cherry tree).
Tiny little blue house, with decommissioned school bus (and band getting ready to play). All of the musicians we heard were good. There's a lot of musical talent in this town!
A much bigger and more elaborate house.
Next door to that Victorian extravaganza, a big, plain, brick ranch.
It was a gorgeous day.....
Scarecrow over the raised beds.
Cute little house.
Mid-century modern house. I'd love to see the inside....
Magnolia.
Viburnum.
One pocket of this neighborhood has BIG lots, with lots of trees and hardly any grass. I would LOVE to be a bit farther from the neighbors than I am right now, especially in a neighborhood that doesn't spend countless hours (noisily!) worshiping grass......
There were a lot of people out, enjoying the day. This isn't the best way to appreciate music -- lots of constant coming and going, and it was hard to see and not that easy to hear. This event is more about socializing than about hearing music, I think.
A little old house, with interesting embellishments.
A very modern, quite big, house, on a big lot. I bet that lots of the big new houses were built on multiple lots. (Little old houses torn down to make room.)
Old.
All of this looks new (I didn't get a pic of the house, as what caught my eye was the chair and the colors.......).
Looking at the crowd down the street.....
Magnolia.
Smiling musician, with colorful arms.
Cherry Street is one block long.
Poster-edged version of a look at the tulips by the house above.
I bet the green part at right is the original house, and the brown parts were added.
Looking down the side of the new brown parts of the above. Note solar panels at right..... I'd like to see the inside of this one, too.....
This is huge. Two dwellings (a separate address for the part over the garage).....
Here's what's right across the street from the above. I suspect these little houses will disappear and bigger ones will replace them.....
That was a really pleasant afternoon. We were glad we went.
