August 31

.

At the farmers' market.  Following the excellent shoes, so I could get a pic.

Then we realized that an old friend was wearing them.  This is Gloria, the computer specialist who worked at our daughter's elementary school.  She always did such a great job of having things for kids to do in the computer lab that were related to what they were doing in the classroom!

It was great to get caught up with her, and, since we knew her, I could ask her to pose so I could get a better pic of the cool kicks.

We got peaches (no more blueberries, alas!), cherry tomatoes (mixed varieties), baby cucumbers, Italian green beans, regular green beans, bell peppers (two kinds of red ones and a yellow one), corn.  We need to get another big batch of basil, one of these days, so we can make some more pesto.....

We had parked behind this car.  We were in our car to go home when I noticed the fish.  I had to jump out for a closer look.

It IS a humuhumunukunukuapua'a!  I thought so!

My parents took my sibs and me along when they went to Hawaii for their 25th anniversary.  It was a great trip.  We had a wonderful time.

The tour guides in Hawaii teased the tourists with the name of this kind of fish, which is hard for tourists to say and remember. We were told about some kind of small tree that they call a "tourist pineapple," because the fruit looks a little like a small pineapple, and tourists don't know that pineapples don't grow on trees..... I wondered if the humuhumunukunukuapua'a was a tourist fish (non-existent)....

Until we went to the aquarium in Honolulu, and saw one.

It's a kind of triggerfish.  I can't see one without thinking about our trip to Hawaii.
