October 3, walking to yoga

.

A lot of energy and money has gone into making West Park manage water better.  There are piles of rocks parallel to the slope of the land, to catch rain and slow the flow of run-off, so that more of the rain will soak in and less will run off.  You can see some of these rocks at right, behind the plants.

They have planted what I hope are native plants in this area that is not mowed.

I walked in through the plants to get a closer look at this pink aster (and collected some interesting burs on my jeans!).

Another honey bee.  Yay.

There are some water-containment tanks underground.  When you walk over the grates in the sidewalk (those darker rectangular places you can see), you can hear the water rushing, even if it hasn't rained lately.

You can see the path curving right, left, and can almost make out where it curves back right.  That's about where the pond is.

There were lots of ducks in the pond, on the 3rd.  These two are standing on rocks, rather than floating.
