July 2

.

Walking home after yoga.  Lemon-yellow daylilies.

Once upon a time, many moons ago, when my better half and I first knew each other, he used to play softball here.  This is pretty much where the ice rink used to be, at West Park.

Nowadays, I believe people hardly ever play here.  (Though the field is kept in lovely condition.)  I have walked through here about once a week, all year 'round, for the last almost three years, and this is the first time I've seen an organized game being played.

There was an article, lately, in our local monthly, about the demise of softball.  Back when my better half was playing, there was softball in this park, and many more parks, nearly every evening.  Not so much, any more................

It was a gorgeous evening.  Not to hot, not too wet.......

It was a busy evening for the park.  In addition to the softball game, there was a concert in the band shell.

Closer crop of the above -- you can see the people facing the band shell (which is behind trees, at left).

Concert goers (or just people strolling through the park?), pausing to look at the ball game.  (Love the ripply pond and its reflections of the sky.)

Closer crop.

Ducks, ruffling the pond.

Round ripples.

More-linear ripples.

There are tons of black-eyed susans in the park.

Doesn't this look like that old carnival ride, where everyone lined the inside of circle, and the the whole contraption whirled around until centripetal force held our backs to the wall, and then the floor pulled away from our feet?

Bud, and hairy green bits.

Lilies.

Every flower in this post is yellow.  Except for a little clover here and there.

Wondering if they have converted that diamond to a baseball diamond? If so, it will have a grass infield instead of dirt. Could possibly explain absence of softball players, in West Park any way.

Interesting thought. I'll have to check w/ B. He has walked through the park a few times this year, but I don't know if he's paid enough attention to be able to say.
