June 28

.

Saturday.

Errands.

Cute little bouquets at Busch's.

Planters outside the bulk food store.

Dragon fruit at the megamart.  The didn't used to have these at the grocery, when I was a kid.

Just as we walked out of Meijers, the skies opened up.

Here's why we go to the megamart -- stocking up on cereal and stuff.

Note rain rebounding off pavement in upper right.  We were sort of sheltered under an overhang, waiting for the rain to quit.

(Love my Ikea bag -- it is perfect for a lot of light-weight stuff like cereal!)

It was raining right down.

Notice our distance from that blue truck.  It will become significant in a moment.  (See my blue Ikea bag, lower left corner, for info about where we are relative to the truck.)

Raining harder.

Raining really hard.  Note blue truck......  You can tell by how gray this next image is how much rain was falling between us and that truck.......  Note also rebound off the roofs of the vehicles and the pavement.

That woman told us it was "only rain" as she walked past our sort-of sheltered space into the parking lot.

Well, yes.  And if it were just me, getting wet, I wouldn't care.  But I didn't really want to soak the groceries..............  Not to mention my camera/phone/watch/billfold......
It rained harder and got windier, and we retreated into the recycling area (where people can get refund slips for their cans and bottles).  Very stinky (old beer -- yuck), but dry.....

Eventually, after another five minutes or so, the rain got lighter, and we ran for the car.

The rain got heavier again as we got to the car.  We shifted everything from the cart into the car as quickly as possible.

On our way home.  Raining hard again.

Looking back at Meijers, which, for some reason, has a facade sort of like a line of small stores.

We've been avoiding Huron/Jackson, as it is one of the worst roads for potholes.  We'll cross Jackson and head east on Dexter.

Going over I-94.

As we headed east, it was raining less and less hard.  When we crossed Maple ... it was dry.  DRY.

This was a good thing; we had laundry on the line.

We yanked the laundry off the line and took it into the house, even before we put away the ice cream.

It did rain at home, but not nearly as hard as it rained at Meijers.  When we looked at the radar later, we saw that the rain had been moving pretty much straight south-to-north.

Still.  Very odd, to have SO much rain just a couple of miles from here, and we got so much less................

Later.  Walking.  Raspberries.
