Learning How to Learn

.

I'm listening to Learning How to Learn on Coursera.

It's an interesting class.  Some of what she's teaching I've figured out for myself, and many other things I did not know.  She has involved people who study learning, and who practice high levels of energy devoted to learning and teaching.

It's interesting to hear what the research on learning has people thinking about they way teaching should work.

For example, it seems that one of the most important things we can do to embed and solidify learning is recall what we are learning.  Reading something, then closing the book and recalling what it said, is very valuable (much more valuable than reading the same page over and over, which can make the info on that page seem familiar, which leads us to think we "know" it, when we have not yet truly added that info to our useful repertoire....).

The class is well worth listening to, I think.

Here's a TED talk by the instructor.  She touches on many of the points that she makes in the first couple weeks of the class.
