September 20

.

Farmers' market.  !!!  I've seen this vendor many times, but this is the first time I've seen the fancy (burlap) curtain (with big tassels!).  Cool.  This is the first time I've seen any booth at the farmers' market set off like this.  This vendor sells seashells and other objects, showcased in frames.  (I'm guessing the spiders are fakes, but I was so taken by the curtain that I didn't think to check.)

Flowers........  Hooray for COLOR............

The sky south of the Pittsfield branch of the library.

Love the grasses and the red/orange berries.

Clouds.

Behind the library there are flowers.  You can see that the library is lifted up, and it's wet underneath.  This is supposed to be wetlands, and the library has been sensitive to that, letting the water be (rather than draining it and building *yet more* condofungus, as is happening to another part of the wetlands very close to the library......).

Asters, mostly, just now, though there is also goldenrod, milkweed, and other flowers.

A closer look at the water under the library.

What have we here!?!  I am pretty sure this is a monarch.  Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was windy on the 20th.  Getting a decent pic of this butterfly was non-trivial.

This is the best I was able to do.  (Having a bag with several library books hanging off your arm is not helpful for holding still in an effort to take sharp pics.....)

This is the best I was able to do at capturing the top surface of the wings, which are more orange than the bottom surface.  I don't remember knowing that monarch bodies are spotted.

Good luck, little one.  Our world would be a sadder place without you........

Looking east over the pond at the end of the library.  So glad to be able to see a view like this with no sight of human trashing of the land.

Here's the pond itself.  It curls around under the library.......

Walking back toward the car -- a close up of an aster.

At home.  Walking.

Maple leaves.

Hosta.  I think this is the one that had all the fruits, but it didn't occur to me to look for them, when I was taking this pic.......

I like those burlap curtains. And all the flowers and especially the monarch. But why does fall have to turn to winter?

I need orange said...

I have a bunch of edited pics of that monarch in the queue.... :-)

Pretty sure that energy we spend regretting weather/seasons is energy we could better use in other ways.....

SO much easier said than acted upon..... !!!
