The day after the day after Linus. Frosty.....
If you only want to hear about happy stuff, click away now.
You'll recall that I talked yesterday about how our street had apparently gotten one swipe by a plow, the night of the 1st/2nd. And about how the street was ENTIRELY passable.
I was thinking they were going to let that be good, and I was rejoicing.
Then we got eight (8) passes from the city plows. On our side of the street. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not a guess, nor an exaggeration. I saw them go by.
You can, I hope, see what was left blocking our driveway. (It's really hard to make out what's going on, in a basically-all-snow pic! I have messed with these, trying to make the level of the snow more visible, but am not sure how well I succeeded.........)
Here's the "before we did any shoveling on the 3rd" shot.
Here's what it looked like when we were, maybe, half done removing the snow deposited by the plows.
I believe the shovel in the next shot is about where our driveway meets the street. I'm guessing the snow is three times the depth of snow we received (from the sky)..................................
And, of course, the stuff that comes out of the street is not light and fluffy. It is packed down, hard, by the weight of vehicles. It's heavy, and it almost always has to be chopped up before you can get it onto a shovel to move it at all.
Sigh. (and grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
I have written to city council. Again. This excessive, obsessive level of plowing is relatively new. I've been a residential property owner in this town (shoveling my own driveway/sidewalk) since 1980. The plows have always put some snow in the end of the driveways. But what they are doing now (and have been doing for the last handful of years) is ridiculous.
Putting all the snow from the street into the curb cuts and driveways, so that people who do not live in my neighborhood can zoom down my street as fast as they want is NOT something I can possibly regard as acceptable...........................
Sigh.

Well, I love the icicles but I know what you mean about the plows making such a mess. I'm in a township which means we don't get plowed till last which is sometimes bad, but less since I'm retired. The good part is once they do, they don't come back (sometimes ever -- not for a mere two or three inches of snow). It presents its own problems but all in all, I think better than yours!
I don't think they *should* come for 2-3". More than 6", ok, but under 4-5"? no.
This is Michigan. It's winter. People who want dry pavement in winter should move to Miami. Or Tucson. Or Dallas.
I have been shoveling snow in Ann Arbor since 1980. They never used to do this to the driveways. There would be SOME snow after the plow went by, but not this ridiculous huge amount.
Sigh!
