Here's an article from Jakub Marian on the most useful foreign languages, as rated by people in the EU.

It's not a surprise that everyone but the native English speakers (and Luxembourg?) pick English first.  It's more interesting what people in different countries pick as the second most useful..... 

And also interesting that the English pick French as most useful -- over German perhaps? 

I wonder if there are more German anglophones than French anglophones.....


And the answer is -- "Why yes.  Yes there are."  Here's another article from Jakub, which says that 56% of Germans speak English, and 39% of the French speak English.
