December 19

.

Christmas goodies from Zingerman's Bakehouse.

Adorable bundled-up penguins next to the "regular cookies."

I chose a pain au chocolat (middle, bottom row)...

... because chocolate is so good with mint.

My paternal grandma loved peppermint-stick ice cream.  Zingerman's Next Door sells gelato.  The gelato display case is right beside the line to order breakfast.  The Creamery makes peppermint-stick gelato at Christmas time.............

I don't usually do ice cream for breakfast, but at Christmas time I can get just the right amount of peppermint-stick ice cream, and then can enjoy it with a pain au chocolat.........  Mmmmmmmm.  This one's for you, Grandma!

Later on the 19th.  A bit of blue sky in the afternoon.

Peppermint stick is my favorite. It's also darned hard to find. We came up with a theory (after looking in all the close or neighborhood stores in East Lansing, Okemos and the east side) that there's a class thing with P-stick. A FB query and three people on the road found that the only spots where we could find it after about three weeks or so in all the stores was in the lower income areas. So the sociological question is: Is Peppermint Stick Ice Cream a status dessert? If all ice cream costs the same, why can you only find p-stick in lower areas? I see a dissertation in there...

Interesting. I've not looked for it in grocery stores for a long time.

The Deli (Next Door) still had it this morning. :-) Maybe the Creamery still has some? (I bet you already know -- the Creamery is by the Bakehouse.)
