May 22 -- part 3, mostly Bryce Point

.

Here is a link to the interactive expedition map.  I added Bryce Point.

Somewhere in Bryce Canyon National Park.

Note fallen tree in lower right corner.

Mother Nature is verrrrry persistent.  This tree is on its side, headed downhill, and yet I believe it survives.

The only thing that matters is that you can still reproduce, right?  Even if you are on your side, headed down toward the abyss.................

Hoodoos and archy stuff where new hoodoos are being born.

Another tree-on-the-edge.

Hoodoos and hoodoos and yet more hoodoos.  The extent of these astonishing landscapes is hard to overemphasize.

Bryce Point is another view point that I believe is reachable from the parking lot via wheelchair.

Aquarius Plateau, from Bryce Point.

Closer crop from near center, near top of the previous.  Stripey mother-rock, and children hoodoos.

This tree is really dead, I think.

Closeup of the tree above.  Twisted trunk.

Live tree, on the edge.

It's a precarious environment.  We are looking toward the wheel-chair accessible part of Bryce Point.

Closer crop from the upper left corner of the above.

Archy stuff, and hoodoos.

Trees, and stairs.

The sun is getting lower in the sky.  The light is getting harsher.

Everywhere you look, you see something you won't see at home, if you live in Michigan.

And we, too, were there, too.

Another tree that has become a bench.  If you sit here, you can look over the fence, out at the "canyon."

Looks like a galaxy?

Love the curve of this little branch, its red bark, and its chartreuse foliage......

Here's a link to the next post about the Grand Canyon Trip.
