Datura. Some of the biggest flowers that grow in our area. The flowers are broad -- at least as big as my spread hand.
And they are long!
Zingerman's (purveyors of fine food) celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2017. Our daughter worked on the team that organized the yearlong celebration, and was part of the team which had particular responsibility for the big party at the farmers' market on August 12.
The entries to the market were embellished with chalk.
Many posters were hung. Spiced pecans are one of my favorite products....
Vendors who have worked with Zingerman's over the decades showed up to share free samples of their wares and chat with visitors. There were thousands of people cheerfully waiting in long lines to taste pickles, bread, gelato, spiced nuts, cheeses, bacon....
I got to tell vendors how much I've enjoyed their products over the years.
Area non-profits came to talk about their work. I've been learning to recognize different kinds of owls by looking at pictures on Instagram. So cool to see this barred owl in person! :-) He suffered a head injury (probably hit by a car) and is not able to be rehabilitated. His attention span is too short for him to be able to hunt. He is an ambassador, bringing the people close so the interpreter can tell us how cutting forests is bad for barred owls, as it pushes them toward places with people and cars.....
It was a great party. :-) Happy 35th, Zingerman's!
