Hosta, in really difficult light. Significant shade, and patches of very bright sun.....
Closer.
Someone ate the petals off this coneflower........
Day lily.
Speaking of someone eating things.......
This is a melanistic fox squirrel. It was eating our doormat. It came on multiple days, and grazed on the doormat. Which is some sort of very stiff bristly natural fiber. I can't think that was good for it. I shooed it away, but it came back..........

It figures that since it was chased away from the mat by dogs for so many years (ancestral memory, don'cha know), it must be delicious. You chasing it away has only reinforced that notion. Soon there will be a veritable army of squirrels eating your doormat.
Lol............
I'll keep you posted if we see a continuation of this behavior.
I hope that squirrel makes it -- though I think they have cast iron stomachs!
Jeanie, it was back the next day. So apparently it didn't suffer enough ill effects to stop it from returning.
I have seen a black squirrel in the last few months, but don't know if it was this one or not. We haven't seen anyone grazing on the doormat for months.
I wondered at the time if it was after salt, but in July? I'd think any salt from the previous winter would have been rained away by then. I don't know.
