Christmas cactuses at the grocery store.
One of the pieces of trash I picked up on November 29.
When I'm picking up trash I don't usually pick up stuff that I figure is biodegradable. When I pick up paper, I hardly ever look at it.
But this one caught my eye. Alas, Borders closed its doors forever a pretty long time ago.
This would be even more poignant if it were from the downtown flagship store, rather than the branch in the big-box strip.
I wonder how this receipt came to survive so long after May of 2011, and how it found itself in the street on November 29, 2017.
I miss Borders as it used to be, when it was unique and welcoming and vibrant.
It's sad that growing so much, and then failing to pick up on the trend toward online sales, meant its demise. One of the things that enabled Borders to grow so fast in the beginning was their early adoption of electronic inventory management. Ironic that they then failed to see the importance of expansion of technology in the form of online sales...........
