getting out the vote

.

USA Forever.

Well, forever is pretty long, but please, please, please let the USA not end in my lifetime because too many of us couldn't be bothered to step up and fight for it.  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought 100 pre-stamped postcards in the fall of 2017.  I wrote get-out-the-vote notes for Doug Jones, and for Conor Lamb.

This year, I bought another 100, and then another 90 (because the post office only had 90).  When I ran out of pre-stamped postcards, I had 42 postcard stamps.  I sent another 42 "non-standard" (if there is a standard....) postcards.

Almost every one of these 332 postcards was sent with political intent, and the vast majority were to help get out the vote for particular candidates.  I mailed 167 get-out-the-vote postcards last month.........

I won't be staying up tonight to watch returns.

I can't decide if I hate suspense more or less than bad news.  (I hate both Very Much Indeed.)  Tomorrow I will find out what happens (though I suspect I will hear some good news tonight, if I ask nicely to be told only the good news).

I supported so many candidates that it would be a miracle if they all won.  But surely some of them will.  I'm going to count each one as a victory.

I know I could have done more.  But I did WAY more than I did in 2016, and so did hundreds and thousands and (I'm hoping) millions of people.

All of this extra woke-ness will make a difference.

I am hoping for a huge difference.  Please, please, please may it come to pass.

And whatever happens, I will stay woke.  I will write for the inevitable run-offs and replacements and whatever that occur between now and the next set of major elections.  I will write on in 2018, and in 2019, and in 2020, and on and on, as long as I am able.

I will not forget those who voted for the abominable candidate for the Supremes, and I will be working for every opponent they ever have.

We have seen what happens when too few of us are working against the forces of darkness, and I am never again going to be a slacker in this fight.

Fight on.  WRITE on.................
