On Friday they had the soft brown cows who concentrate more on producing rich milk than on enormous quantities. Googling for "dairy cattle" in an attempt to figure out what breeds I had seen, I read that Jersey bulls, belying their soft and beautiful faces, have "the least docile temperament of the common breeds of cattle." Furthermore: "It is folly to trust any dairy bull and particularly Jerseys past eighteen months of age."
Thinking of snap judgements, books, covers, I offer you a few of these beautiful cows.
I believe their skin must be incredibly soft -- just look at those tiny ripples, in the curves of their necks.
Look at the way her neck forms its own ruffles, when she bends to find the last crumbs of lunch in her dish....

Thanks! One thing I loooooooove about digital is taking so many pics. I took nearly 400 pics that day. SO much easier to get a couple of dozen good ones than if one only shoots one roll (which is what I probably would have done in olden times). And then being able to mess with them after the fact..... *SO* much easier to get images I am satisfied with! [happy sigh]
I'm working through the fair in the order in which we saw stuff.
Next will be sheep, then goats, ducks, geese, bunnies, produce, a couple of crafted things, elephants (yes, really), and, last and my favorite, performance events for draft horses. :-)
Steve is a great loss. I always knew a critter would get him, sooner or later, but as you say, a freak accident. Very sad.
Thanks so much for visiting and for commenting. Given your photos and your writing, I am honored that you like what I do.
