I was lucky -- the day we were at the state fair was a fiber sheep day rather than a meat sheep day. These lovely ladies are Lincoln sheep. Lincoln fleece is very long, curly, shiny, and almost hair-like (rather than wooly). Lincoln fleece is excellent for hard-wearing applications (rugs, perhaps), but not so good for next-to-the-skin use.
Some people have fantasy football teams. I have a fantasy farm, populated with a wide variety of different creatures. I definitely have Lincoln sheep. I'm not sure I can choose a color, so there are probably several Lincoln sheep.
Spin Off magazine published a gorgeous Lincoln rug many years ago, made from these delicious curls. I am not sure of my weaving terms -- the weaving was started normally, then many handfuls of curls were woven in, then some rows of yarn were woven in (to hold the curls). Rows of curls alternated with rows of yarn. In the finished rug, you could only see the curls............ Mmmmmmmmm.
Could anyone look at these curls and not want to sink their fingers into them?
