Sept. 23 -- Toledo Zoo polar bear cub, ball

Now let's play with the ball!

First, it has to get in the water. Maybe if I lie on my back, and reach *way* back.....

Ok, I guess I have to climb up there after it.

What if I try to grab it from under the water?

I just can't get my jaws around this thing!

The first time I ever visited the Cleveland zoo, one of the polar bears played with a similar ball. I stood and took pictures until I ran out of film ... about an hour. Every time I go back, I hope they'll be playing again. Great photos.

Thanks!

Many years ago they had a pair of cubs older than these (maybe a year old). We were lucky enough to be there on a day when they were playing with each other -- ambushing from under the water, etc.

I took a lot of pics that day, but not as many as last Sunday -- gotta love digital!!! :-)

One thing I love about the zoo is that if the polar bears are all asleep, maybe the gorillas are doing something interesting..... *Somebody* will be doing something.....

And -- now that I think about it -- one good thing about them being asleep is that it's easier to get nice sharp pics when they are still.... :-)

Panasonic's choices when they design their sensors mean that they are not the best camera for taking pictures of action, so I was pleased to get this set of pretty sharp bear-in-motion shots.
