Fancy house, between two plainer ones.

I don't know what it was about this particular "winter event" -- it doesn't look like much, and it didn't seem like much, to us seasoned mid-westerners (the sidewalks were fine; not slippery) -- but the buses could barely run, the taxis were skidding, things were a mess.
We got on one south-bound bus that took 45 minutes to go three blocks. (The Met is at 79th, and the Waldorf-Astoria is at 50th.) The driver told us, finally, "I'm skidding! I'm skidding! If I make it through the next intersection, that's it! I'm getting out!"
Well.
All righty then.
He made it through, he got out. The New Yorkers said that the electric buses are lighter than the diesel buses (no fuel on board, for one thing), and so sometimes the diesel buses can go when the electric ones can't.
They had another bus for us, but it was only going as far south as 59th.
When the first driver announced he was through, the people on the bus immediately began to brainstorm about subway stops and other buses. Everyone pooled their how-to-get-around knowledge, helping everyone figure out how to get home.
We decided to walk from 59th to the Waldorf-Astoria.
It wasn't bad walking at all; I don't know why the streets were so slippery (but I saw tires spinning, so I know they were.....).
We stopped at a take-out soup/sandwich place. My last dinner in New York was soup and cheesecake!
It took us until almost quarter to seven to get back to the hotel from the museum. The second set of groups at Westminster was judged at 8:00. Given the weather and the difficulty we anticipated, getting from the hotel to Madison Square Garden, we decided to forgo attending the end of the dog show.
