my front yard

A tulip tree is a big tree. It gets its name from the shape of the flowers.

The inside of the flower doesn't look so much like a tulip. In the fall there will be long thin seeds in the same arrangement as we see here...... Generally speaking it seems that the female parts of flowers are in the center, with the male parts around the edges -- I wonder if that is reversed, here........

See how wet it looks in there? I picked one up off the ground to look at it, and then regretted that. I was on my way to work, and my hand was sticky.........

Cotoneaster. I bet this is a volunteer. It was here when we bought the house, and is right on the edge of the sidewalk up to the house. It tends to branch out over the walk. These flowers are tiny -- little balls about 8 mm in diameter.
