September 4

.

The first several pics are of one parking lot planter. I need to write a letter to the Downtown Development Agency -- they are in charge of the parking lots, and I should tell them how much I appreciate the time and energy that goes into the parking lot plantings. Truly a major enhancement to downtown!

Two kinds of petunias, and, um, that star-shaped fuchsia stuff in the upper right corner. (There is also a lot of chartreuse sweet-potato vine in this planter, but it declined to be photographed on the 4th.)

Lantana. The open flowers are nice, and I love the incipient ones.....

Verbena. (How I deeply and truly love google. When you think you know what a plant might be, but aren't sure, you just type its name into the google search box, and then click on "images" above the list of stuff it gives you, and, hey presto, a whole bunch of pics that either are, or are not, the plant you are trying to identify. Happy sigh.)

The whole time I was trying to photograph stuff in this planter, I was distracted by this, blowing in my face.....

It's soft and attractive. Look at the very long sticky-outy things, and the short fuzzy colorful things.

Turning 180 from this lovesome planter, we note the bus depot. The bus system in Ann Arbor is heavily subsidized by property taxes, and, as you can see, by advertising as well.

As you have been paying attention, you know that the bus depot is right across Fifth Avenue from the library.

I've talked about "the enormous planter in front of the library" -- here it is.

Just to the left, outside the pic above, is the hydrangea we've been looking at.

I love its leaves. Curvy, jaggedy, *green*.....

Love the shapes and varied colors of the flowers.

These are on the same plant we've been examining (same as above).

The next two are two new plants.

Look at the difference in color between the foreground flower and those behind.....

The splash of hot pink/fuchsia on some of the flowers............... Don't they look like someone took a watercolor brush to them?

Here we are near the end of the planter. You can see it is deep, as well as long.

Barberry, hydrangea, red redbud. You can see the habit of these little redbuds in the reflection.

I like the depth in this image. You can see the bookshelves in the library, the blinds just inside the window, the reflections of the plants and the urban background on the front of the window, the farther and nearer plants outside.....
