October 18

.

I spent the morning of the 18th at my friend K.'s house.

K. is an art quilter. She makes wonderful things, and she has an extraordinary eye for wonderful things that others make.

Not to mention a large and varied thread collection.

Isn't this Navajo rug excellent with the modern pot? And then the lace?

I am taking this chronologically, as we toured the upstairs at the end of our morning, and then went downstairs, and out to our cars.

This is my very favorite of K.'s quilts. I babysat it for a few weeks one time, and never ever got tired of looking at it. The fabrics. The colors. The dashes of thread color.....

I love this piece, too.

And this one. The camera grayed it out, and I tried to bring it back to blue, but the color is a bit off, between my efforts and the camera's........ The right-most edge is the closest to true.....

This is Chris Roberts-Antieau's work. It's framed, and what looks like a door in the darker part of the bird is, in fact a door reflected in the glass.

This wonderful trick-or-treater was on the windowsill in the kitchen, but became a silhouette when I tried a pic. I set him down on the counter, and tried again....

Love the bricks going one way and the window going the other.

This piece was made by a friend of K.'s. So simple, yet so rich..... You can see that the interior of the boat is gold, but you can't see that the supports are wrapped. And again with the lace; don't you love it with the spare lines of this piece?

The camera really wants a hard line to focus on. This was its best attempt at a closeup of the amazing texture on the boat. From golden orange to almost purple.....

On my way home. Looking west. I think the color was at its peak on the 18th.

Across the street -- crabapples.

Just outside my car door. Maple on asphalt.

Some seriously big trees in this neighborhood!

When I was seven, my best friend lived in this house. We had become best friends in first grade, and then both of our families moved to different houses. On different sides of town. We still went to the same church, so she would often come home with my family, or I would go home with hers. We spent many Sunday afternoons together.

We spent hours in this front yard, playing dolls with our rubber animals. Remember those? Less than 2" tall, all different shapes.... My favorite one was a dark pink elephant whose name was Ellen Fink..... Her boyfriend was Alan Funt. We made elaborate houses for them. Inside we made houses in coat boxes from Goodyear's, and outside we made houses of twigs and leaves.

There were yews here then, and there are yews here now. I wonder if little girls are still using them in construction projects.

Heading toward the intersection of Main and Huron.

I'd been following that *yellow* car, and was struck by the yellow of the trees and the traffic lights......... And then when allll the lights were red, I had to take the pic......

You are most welcome. Don't you love to visit people's homes when their personalities shine through?

Especially when they have such exquisite taste..........
