cleaning out the basement, part 3 of 487

.

On the 11th, a very nice and helpful colleague of my husband's came by to help get junk out of our basement.

He and his wife are interested in the buffet, and he helped get rid of the three trashy cabinets just because he is a really nice guy.

This buffet was our changing table when the child needed such a thing.

Someone took some trouble over its manufacture -- the mahogany is really nice........ I stripped it and removed the hardware, back in the pre-Antiques-Roadshow days.... The lighter wood isn't as much lighter as it looks in the pics, and was pretty much the same color as the mahogany, before I stripped it.... I put an oil finish on it.

This is one of the cabinets that was full of really old bound Harper's.... The guys say it is heavier than the buffet.....

This charming cupboard thing was in the kitchen when we bought the house (in front of where the dog crate is, now, for those of you who have actually seen our kitchen).

This is the other cupboard that had old bound magazines inside. As I said the other day -- when you buy a house, do not (DO NOT!!!!!) let them leave junk like old cabinets, dead magazines, ancient fridges (or freezers)............ You will regret it when you have to dispose of that stuff, yourself.............

This cupboard (like the taller one) was in the basement from the first time we saw the house. Isn't it an odd shape? Wonder where it came from...... I think we probably have the original 1946 kitchen (did they have formica then?), so I don't think it came from our kitchen. But maybe someone redid the kitchen, relatively early on? I don't know.

The handles and the red linoleum top would have been right at home in my grandma's kitchen.

Yes, the white stuff is just what you think it is.............

Thank you, Brandon. You did us a huge favor!

Hard-to-get-out-of-the-basement junk all gone; time to go to work.

Ginkgo carpet.
