cruise, Jan. 31, walking around Nassau, part 2

.

Walking back down the hill toward the main-drag-ish-ness.

Here is something you don't see in Ann Arbor. People complain that it is hard to park in Ann Arbor, but we don't have this sort of complication to the parking situation.

I have a small collection of businesses with odd combinations of services. Bike shop and laundromat, for example.

I suppose this isn't really *that* odd a combination. It is probably the scale I am responding to..... Coming from a place with a Really Big Government, I suppose the size and shape of this building, containing these activities..........

When one is used to Bigness, smallness can seem ... odd and quaint. I'm remembering a tour of Yale. My friend showed me all four buildings, and I thought "but where's the rest?" (Ok, four is an exaggeration, but really, Yale is practically nonexistent, in comparison with the enormous sprawling scattered campus of the University of Michigan.........) End of digression.

It's easier for me to spot the British architectural impact in a gray building than a pink one.

Pink, with palms.

I believe this tree was pining for the fjords.

Another tree growing out of the pavement. The one above was not unique.

Dove, color coordinated with its environment.

Yet another tree growing out of the pavement. Excellent vine, no? To look at, I mean. It probably kills everything it climbs on.

Sidewalk grating around a tree.
