SL -- Astronomy2009

.

On Friday the 6th we visited Astronomy2009, which has been (is being) built for the International Year of Astronomy. This is a totally excellent place to visit if you like to look at astronomy pics.

In this next shot we are looking down at me and the same location as the prev, from a considerable height. There are two spiraling paths to follow -- one is "Earth in the Universe" and the other is "The World at Night."

The blue dot just to the right of my right elbow is the kiosk I'm looking at in the prev.

Here we are, in the amphitheatre (don't you love the chairs???). It was a darn shame that there were so few people to hear the presentation. It was interesting and informative. (And in voice, so it could convey a LOT more info in the same amount of time than if the presenter had needed to type it all on the fly!)

Slide about the IYA. (Note moi in center [transparent] chair.)

After the presentation, I walked around. Here we are walking down the "Earth in the Universe" path.

There are cubes coming up out of the model of the earth. If you click on a cube, a larger version of the image on the cube faces shows up on the screen on the left, and an explanation shows up on the screen on the right.

(note that we can see the earth -- and the sun -- in the aerial view, above)

Next was the sun, with solar images on the cubes.

Here's what it looks like from inside the sun (can't walk inside the exhibits in RL!).

Mars.

Uranus.

Note sign at bottom -- that tells the category of images. I tried to avoid these signs, as they didn't add to my pic, but they *do* add to the journalistic/story-telling aspect, so I probably should have tried to keep them in the pics, rather than the reverse!

For those of you in the audience with an interest in fabric and fabric dyeing, wouldn't you pay big bucks for this, if it were yardage?

Now we are walking down the other spiral. These are the "World at Night" pics, which show some aspect of our planet, with the sky.

There were lots of very good pics in this group, and some spectacular amazing incredible ones. As they are the current work of living artists, I am not sure it's ok for me to share them with you.

I know it's ok to link to the TWaNight site.

Do look at some of my favorites from the Astronomy2009 exhibit here, and here, and, oh my, here................

Wow.

Ok.

Back to a more normal plane of existence.

All the land in SL is islands. You knew I would find the beach. I decided to change and sit here for a while.

I am much more likely to watch sunrises when they occur in the middle of the afternoon, as this one did.........

Ok, get dressed; wander around some more.

Isn't this an excellent spot? You can't really tell that that gray wall we're looking at was a huge waterfall/fountain, but it was.

Fire. Water. Comfy lounge chairs.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
