I gave this to my parents when I visited them last weekend.

One of the things I am really enjoying about the whole stenciling thing is the layers.
You can really see the different layers, even when your top layer is black........
I started this one indoors with some interior latex and a stenciling brush. I put on the fuchsia flowers at the bottom.
I had stenciled a yellow alphabet on another piece of paper, and I printed this piece with the still-painty stencil.
Then I sprayed the big circles with orange spray ink.
I sprayed the small white circles, and then went back over the big circles with just a touch more orange ink.
Then the black silhouette of Moi in my tasteful art fair hat.
You can see in this closeup that the layers can be seen right through the black.

Another thing that is interesting about this process is that the layers look different in different lights. As you walk by, it looks different from different angles.....
If you click to embiggen the first pic, you'll see that the flowers are visible right through my legs...........

What a fun piece!
I took the stencilry class too, and have not tried the spray ink. What kind did you use?
And with the paint, did you use a sponge stencil "brush" or an actual stencil brush?
Love the colors you used.
Thanks!
My local friend who also took the class is the one who bought the ink.... I'll have to find out and try to remember to report back. I think it was purchased at the scrapbook store (and is not a Ranger product).
I used a real brush.
Stenciling that way has real advantages -- you can not only get nice crisp edges, but if you want to stencil *around* something that is already on your page, it's easy to do. No masking or whatever; just don't tap the brush right there.
And no icky propellants!
These are great! I will have to give the brush a try---didn't even think of house paint (of which, I have a ton of those little sample sizes)
I remembered to check this morning -- they are Maya Mist inks.
Thanks, Melissa!
Anytime I go somewhere where there is a wide choice of colors, I want one of each, please.
:-)
Little housepaint samples, colored papers, colored pens/pencils, spray inks.
You name it. One of each, please.
:-)
I think house-paint-with-stencil-brush is a fine addition to my stenciling toolkit.
Thanks for sharing! I appreciate the input. Now to go shopping. :)
