visitors

.

I tend to take a really laissez-faire approach to gardening (which is how I got an 8' nettle last year).

This year my giant weed is a catnip. I was sort of curious just how big it would get (and at least I recognized it as benign this time, as I let it grow and grow!).

Now I'm really glad I let this one be.

The goldfinches like it. Really like it. They visited many times, when the seeds were apparently just right.

Attempts at bird photography are the most (the only?) compelling argument I know for window washing.

These were taken through three panes of glass (our family room south-facing windows predate us, and are, indeed, triple-paned). Three panes of dirty glass.

Sigh.

I was about 8' from the mister, and 10' from the missus. I had the bigger camera, with the 12x optical zoom. They were there for a long time on two occasions; I got dozens of pics. These were the best of the lot.

Doesn't it just figure that the clearest one is of the drabber bird?

Isn't it interesting that they were watching me as closely as I was watching them? Even though I was inside behind those three panes of glass........
